Gluing machine Plastic frame 120 - 170 10 - 20 • New solution under test: rigid plastic frame instead of lateral tapes and spacer. • Simpler handling (less rejection) • Accurate positioning of the corner without not easy setup (test in progress), • Production rate higher. No precise cutting tool required. • Plastic frames provided by external manufacturer. • estimated cost : frame 4.5 euro/brick, tape 15 euro/brick [+1.5 euro/brick] • estimated time : 25 minutes brick/ 1 person [-15 minutes/brick]

  2. New plate with holes Within this R&D on Edge Scanning and Distortion Study, severel prototypes of vacuum plates with holes were realized. New prototypes delivered. Vacuum good. Distortion measurements in progress.

Tape and Spacer Specifications OLD lateral tape spacer spacer spacer lateral tape 100 120 - 170 10 - 20 Tests performed using : - acrylic adhesive tapes: Nitto model 31C and model 3161F (80 µm thickness, 140 mm width) • spacers and lateral tapes: PVC (300 µm thickness) • Nitto tapes are suitable for our purpose. • Tests of (more) rigidspacer and/or lateral tapes are in progress.

Costs and operational times OLD Acrylic adhesive tape: 60 euro/roll (140 mm x 50 m) [order ~ 50 rolls] 1 brick ~ 12 m  4 bricks/roll  15 euro/brick PVC tape: 3.5 euro/roll (20 mm x 50 m)0.04 euro/spacer 3 euro/brick Expected operational time to glue 1 brick (1 person) : strip preparation: ~ 10 min gluing machine: ~ 10 min (manual) cutting: ~ 20 min

  6. 2 exchanger families: [A] and [B] / same GLUING A. "Both exchangers can handle only glued emulsions.“ -> All bricks glued. => modifications for ALL exchangers of one family. B. "The exchanger [A] can handle only glued emulsion. The exchanger [B] can work in glued/not glued mode." -> Glue for [A]. No glue for [B]. Events at the border or pathological cases with the same gluing. => modifications for a few exchangers of the type [B]. Bricks already measured with [B] will be glued for remeasurement with [A] Bricks already measured with [A] can be measured with the modified exchangers of [B] C. "Both exchangers can work in glued/unglued mode." -> No glue for the majority of the bricks. Events at the border or pathological cases with 2 different gluing. => modifications for a few exchangers of the type [B].
