  3. 歷史 • 單簧管的歷史淺，在巴洛克時代的音樂裡尚沒有這種樂器，而海頓的音樂裡用到單簧管，是在他六十歲後的作品，現在使用的單簧管只有薩克斯風與豎笛兩類。

  4. 特色 • 其他樂木管都是以開管原理發音，唯有豎笛是以閉管原理發音 • 其他木管管形都是圓錐形，唯有豎笛是員柱形。像長笛的本管與尾管都呈圓柱形，可是吹口管則呈圓錐形，而豎笛則從頭到尾都是圓柱形。 • 樂器的管子全部都用木材製成，一其分成五節，分成五節的原因是為了便於修理於攜帶。 • 豎笛音域寬廣，音色變化很大，音量可由強烈的咆哮，銳減至輕柔的低語，加上它可以演奏快速音階，琶音，跳躍音，斷奏，或圓滑的旋律等，表現力卓越，因此常在交響樂改編的管樂曲中演奏原先小提琴的旋律，也是極為理想的獨奏樂器。
