  2. 1) God’s promises don’t come because of perfect circumstances- Luke 2:6-7 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.

  3. 1) God’s promises don’t come because of perfect circumstances- Luke 2:6-7 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, & wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, …

  4. 1) God’s promises don’t come because of perfect circumstances- Luke 2:6-7 7 … & laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

  5. The goodness of God is not just in good times. The promises of God are not just for when things are going well. The birth of Jesus, the greatest promise of God, came through hard times and in hard circumstances.

  6. Heb 6 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith & patience inherit the promises.

  7. Heb 6 13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

  8. Heb 6 14 saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, & multiplying I will multiply you." 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

  9. Message of Christmas is to look beyond your circumstances to what God is doing.

  10. 2) Don't fear, the Promise of God has come- Luke 2:8-11 8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.

  11. 2) Don't fear, the Promise of God has come- Luke 2:8-11 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, & the glory of the Lord shone around them, & they were greatly afraid.

  12. 2) Don't fear, the Promise of God has come- Luke 2:8-11 10 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

  13. 2) Don't fear, the Promise of God has come- Luke 2:8-11 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

  14. Jesus was called Savior, before the cross or resurrection, because he was the fulfillment of God’s promise.

  15. Rom 4 18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed & so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." NIV

  16. Rom 4 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--& that Sarah's womb was also dead. NIV

  17. Rom 4 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith & gave glory to God, NIV

  18. Rom 4 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promisedNIV

  19. Message of Christmas is to believe that God’s promises will come to pass.

  20. 3) Believing God’s promises brings us hope- Luke 2:15-18 15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem…

  21. 3) Believing God’s promises brings us hope- Luke 2:15-18 15 …& see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they came with haste …

  22. 3) Believing God’s promises brings us hope- Luke 2:15-18 16 And they came with haste & found Mary & Joseph, & the Babe lying in a manger.

  23. 3) Believing God’s promises brings us hope- Luke 2:15-18 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.

  24. 3) Believing God’s promises brings us hope- Luke 2:15-18 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

  25. The shepherds not only listened, but believed enough to act. A promise is only an interesting idea until it is acted upon.

  26. 2 Peter 1 4 By these He has given us very great & precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desiresHCSB
