  3. Binary Covalent Compounds • Compound composed of a Nonmetal and a Nonmetal • Binary means Two • Each Compound will have a First Name and a Last Name

  4. Rules for the First Name • Name the first nonmetal • If the subscript indicates two or more atoms, use the prefixes from the table (Di- to Deca) • DO NOT USE THE PREFIX “MONO” FOR THE FIRST NONMETAL NAME!!!

  5. Rules for the Second Name • If the subscript indicates that there are one or more atoms use the prefixes from the table (Mono- to Deca-) • Change the ending of the Second Nonmetal to an –ide ending
