  1. Click on the arrow to start the video presentation. The new Air Force Corporate Facilities Standards (or AFCFS) is an enterprise-wide program of standards and criteria to establish improved levels of performance for facilities design and operation. AFCFS provides an exciting direction forward: by creating and maintaining sustainable installations and High Performance Sustainable Buildings throughout the Air Force.
  2. The Overview highlights the principal direction of AFCFS: to balance cost, functionality and character in facilities design to meet the diverse and stringent demands of our missions. Links to resources (such as UFCs, AFIs and ETLs) are provided for all new facility construction and renovation projects. Principal building systems and components, which are used to design our built environment, are accessible from the homepage.
  3. This website provides the support and resources needed to meet the new standards under the AFCFS program. Principal systems used to design our built environment are accessible from the homepage. The navigation menu on the right side of the screen lists the major sections. AFCFS will ultimately include four main sections. This initial release (Version 1.0) launches the first two main sections: Facilities Exteriors and Facilities Interiors. When clicking on a section, it will open to list topics within that section.
  4. By clicking the Facilities Exteriors, you can select one of the topics listed under that category. The “Concentrating Solar Resource of the United States” map is provided to encourage climate-based design principles outlined in UFC 1-200-02 High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements. The navigation menu on the right side of the screen lists four major sections: Installation Development, Site Development, Facilities Exteriors and Facilities Interiors. When clicking on a section, it will open to list topics within that section.
  5. By clicking on Wall Systems, you will see all of the standards listed for that category. Images appear at the left, giving you a graphic overview of the subject matter. Captions below the images describe the intent of the image.
  6. Images from this category can be enlarged for easier viewing.
  7. Air Force Corporate Policy is listed below the photographs, with supporting links to outside resources, including UFCs, AFIs and ETLs.
  8. By clicking on the Hierarchy of Materials standard, you will see representative images and specific standards that apply. The Air Force Corporate Policy is accessible by clicking on the adjacent tab.
  9. The Air Force Corporate Policy is repeated on the adjacent tab and is accessible from any standard.
  10. All of the standards are listed in the tab format with one exception: Materials. Clicking on the Materials standards navigates to a unique page.
  11. The materials standards provide detailed information to assist in the evaluation and selection process for materials and systems that are appropriate for the facility type, use, Base design standards and the local climate.
  12. A graphic chart lists materials along the left side and evaluation criteria across the top. Criteria include Facility Groups, locations, cost information, climate information, and information on flexibility and expandability. An empty circle indicates a less-desirable application and a full circle indicates the more-desirable application. Considerations such as durability and lifecycle costs as well as ongoing maintenance requirements and associated flexibility are critical in evaluating materials.
  13. Test Back on the Materials page, thumbnail images depict the material options and provide a link to a PDF of the Air Force performance standards for that material. Clicking on the image, or on the written description, opens the PDF.
  14. Outside resources are listed at the top and general performance-based standards for the specific material follow.
  15. Related sections are listed at the bottom of the document. After closing the PDF viewers return to the previous page and navigation menu.
  16. Reinforcing a philosophy of resourcefulness, AFCFS emphasizes the cost- and time-saving efficiencies of a holistic, comprehensive approach to the design of our built environment. As we move forward—as we fully implement this AFCFS program—all of our new and renovated facilities will firmly represent the dignity, virtue and long-term sustainability of the United States Air Force.
