WHAT IS INFORMATION LITERACY? • Information Literacy is the ability to identify what information is needed, understand how the information is organized, identify the best sources of information for a given need, locate those sources, evaluate the sources critically, and share that information.

  3. WHY IS INFORMATION LITERACY IMPORTANT? • Information literacy is very important because we have access to more information now than ever before. • Information literacy skills help prevent information overload.

  4. WHY IS INFORMATION LITERACY IMPORTANT? • Not all information is good information: some is honest, up to date, and reliable, but most is biased, out of date, misleading, and false.

  5. WHY IS INFORMATION LITERACY IMPORTANT? • The amount of information available is going to keep increasing. • The types of technology used to find, change, and create information will also expand.

  6. HOW WILL I USE INFORMATION LITERACY SKILLS? • You will use information literacy skills in school as you work on research projects and group presentations.

  7. HOW WILL I USE INFORMATION LITERACY SKILLS? • When you grow up, you will use information literacy skills at work. Most grown-ups have to evaluate, use, and share information at their jobs.

  8. HOW WILL I USE INFORMATION LITERACY SKILLS? • Consumers use information literacy skills as they make choices. You will use information literacy skills to help you decide which goods and services are worth purchasing.

  9. HOW WILL I USE INFORMATION LITERACY SKILLS? • Good citizens use information literacy skills to make wise decisions. Information literacy skills will help you understand important issues and vote for leaders who are honest and laws that are fair.

  10. SEPARATING THE GOOD  FROM THE BAD  • The information literacy skills you learn this year will help you become an expert at separating bad information from good information!
