  2. Introduction These halls are buzzing with ghosts! If you are quiet you can hear them whispering! Each one wants to tell you their story…but how do you choose?? I bet you don’t know who some of these people are, or WERE!! You are needed to help discover who these famous Alabamians of the 21st century are, and why they are important. They want you to choose who will get to come tell their story in our classroom. The United States Post Office also wants someone to design a stamp on behalf of these famous Alabamians. So find out who they are, design their stamp, and write them a letter inviting them to come to our class!

  3. Process Step One: Choose a famous Alabama Ghost from the list on task one. Write their name in the top center box of the graphic organizer you were given at the beginning of class. Visit the links provided about that ghost. Step Two: Research three important or interesting facts about the Alabama Ghost. Write them in the top three columns of the graphic organizer. List three supporting details about each important fact you chose. Step Three: Visit the links on task two with examples of stamps currently being circulated. Design a stamp for the Alabama Ghost you chose. Step Four: Following the guidelines in task three, write a letter to your Alabama ghost inviting them to come to our classroom and tell their story.

  4. TASK ONE Choose a Famous Alabama Ghost from the list. You may have one reading over your shoulder right now…so choose wisely!!! Use the links provided for each to fill out your graphic organizer with three important facts and three supporting details. Willie Mayes (a) Paul Bear Bryant (a) (b)(b) Nat King Cole (a) Hank Williams Sr. (a) (b)(b) Zelda Fitzgerald(a) Tallulah Bankhead (a) (b)(b)

  5. TASK Two Use what you have learned about your Alabama Ghost to design a stamp that would make them proud!! I’m sure they won’t be afraid to tell you if they don’t like it…by flickering the lights, or a light and sudden breeze! Make sure you use symbols that have meaning to why they were famous, or what they achieved. Use the links below to investigate some of the stamps currently in circulation. 6. TASK Three Write a letter to your Alabama Ghost inviting them to come speak to our class. Be sure to tell them that you have been researching them, and tell them why you find them interesting. Ghosts LOVE to be flattered, so be very kind, but don’t go overboard. Your letter should be at least three paragraphs long.

  7. Evaluation Grading Rubric There are ten items and ten possible points to be earned. Valid facts and details score the most points. If your details and facts are weak, and do not relate to why your Alabamian Ghost is famous, you will score low. If your details and facts are strong, and pertain to why your Alabamian Ghost is famous you will score high.

  8. Conclusion You have visited the ghosts of Famous Alabamians from the past. It is important for us to remember the lessons of those who have come before us. Hopefully your have enjoyed your visit into their lives, maybe now they can get some rest. But remember… you never know who is sitting in class with us, just waiting to be noticed!
