  2. The greatest battle any person any where faces is the battle for their soul.

  3. Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 1 Peter 2:11-12

  4. The Battle against Self Indulgence:

  5. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. Galatians 5:17

  6. The Battle against Self Indulgence: • Gal 5:17 ‘sinful desires’. ‘sinful’ = appealing to the natural, fleshly part of us. Gal 5:19-21

  7. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God Gal 5:19-21

  8. The Battle against Self Indulgence: • Gal 5:17 ‘sinful desires’. ‘sinful’ = appealing to the natural, fleshly part of us. Gal 5:19-21 ‘Abstain’ = not ‘don’t have them, but rather don’t give in to them. ‘war against your soul’. They are not neutral; they are not natural; they are anti you and anti God.

  9. Fight against self promotion. We are to be living signposts!
