  1. MOPS Rapid Improvement Event

  2. Mops Rapid Improvement Event • Use Vileda SWEP Mopping system in all of the wards • The SWEP Mopping system has proven to be useful in the fight against HAI. • Since Implementation there have been logistical issues • inventory – no mops • getting them to the right person at the right time (the Domestic Staff) in the right place. • Potential HAI issues • NHS Tayside used the Rapid Improvement Event model for this problem bringing together Domestics, Porters and Laundry Team members to analyse the current process, identify inefficiencies (using Lean Methodology) and implement new better processes to make life easier for them and the organisation.

  3. “I only want to do the best job I can to the standard that NHS Tayside expects” • NHS Tayside Domestic

  4. The RIE process identified that: • Ownership and managing the inventory was not as good as it could be and this was rectified • Logistics of getting the items from the Laundry to the Wards was not very Lean. • The different disciplines had no idea how “the other half lived” i.e. how the problem affected them. This process let them see the end to end. • Domestics were “hoarding” the mops for fear of not getting more – this just took even more out of the system.

  5. Out for the count! • 74K per year spent on mops • 1170 mops short each day at PRI site alone • 17 hours per week per supervisor spent “hunting” for mops • Staff not able to start work on time - 30 minutes wasted each day (per domestic would = 600 minutes • No mops to clean- HAI issues -weekends no mops revert to old mopping system • Foreign objects - everyday occurrence

  6. Releasing Time to Clean! • Inventory has been kick started with an Amnesty, a Stock Take and a request for funding for more stock • Training Materials/Posters have been put in place to maintain the optimum process. • A dedicated delivery and pick up service is being formulated to ensure the right people get them at the right time in the right place.
