Hire some free help • Rudyard Kipling's “Six Honest Men” • I KEEP six honest serving-men • (They taught me all I knew); • Their names are What and Why and When  •  And How and Where and Who. • I send them over land and sea, •  I send them east and west; • But after they have worked for me, •  I give them all a rest.

  3. Who are your audiences? • LE’s? • Prospective LE’s? • Administrators? • Who else?

  4. Who is the editor? What is editor’s role? • Plan content • Determine goals • Work with writers • Write headlines • Oversee budget, production schedule, etc.

  6. How to keep readers reading • Content should drive your mission, by keeping it visible, and inspiring readers to get involved. • Keep content relevant. Omit needless fillers. • People like to read about themselves. Include their names, faces, places, and accomplishments. • Keep content fresh.

  7. What is a headline? • There are titles and headlines • Headlines contain a verb • Title: LE Sales Report • Headline: LE’s Sales Increase

  8. What are the expectations? • What do you expect from your newsletter? • What do your readers expect from your newsletter?

  9. Newsletter design tips that work • Design is the handmaiden of the message. Use it to clearly communicate message. • Select typeface size with age of average reader in mind. • Use pictures rather than clipart. • Include adequate white space.
