What courses are NHS Funded? • Healthcare Studies Occupational Therapy Physiotherapy Radiotherapy & Oncology, Radiography Dental Therapy & Hygiene Operating Department Practice Assistant Radiographic Practice • Nursing & Midwifery • Medicine & Dentistry NHS funded from the 5th Year onwards • Pharmacy, Pharmacology & Optometry • These courses are NOT NHS Funded

  4. Am I eligible for NHS Funding? NHS Funding depends on – • Residence in the UK conditions • Allocation of a NHS Funded place Previous study does not affect eligibility for NHS Funding

  5. NHS Funding Operating Department Practice (Diploma) Assistant Radiographic Practice (Certificate) • Tuition fees paid by NHS • Salary (Usually via NHS Trust)

  6. NHS Funding BScOccupational Therapy BSc Physiotherapy, BSc Radiotherapy & Oncology, Radiography Dental Therapy & Hygiene (BSc & Diploma) • Tuition fees paid by NHS (Non income assessed) • Bursary for living costs (Income Assessed) • Bursary for Placement costs (Income Assessed) • Reduced Student Loan (Non income Assessed)

  7. Degrees in Healthcare Studies *£82 is added for each extra week of attendance Minimum funding is £2324 per year from the Student Loan

  9. NHS Funding Nursing & Midwifery Degree • Tuition fees paid by the NHS • Help with placement travel costs • Basic Bursary towards living costs All Nursing & Midwifery students will qualify for this support regardless of income.

  10. Nursing & Midwifery Basic Bursary for living costs £6701 p.a. Or £558 a month Or £128 per week Nursing & Midwifery students are not eligible for ‘Student Loans’ or the ‘University Bursary’

  11. How to apply for funding Nursing & Midwifery Apply via – The School of Nursing & Midwifery Finance Office, Cardiff University. • Telephone: (029) 2091 7713 • Apply when offer of a place received.

How to apply for funding Healthcare Studies NHS Bursary – • Apply via the NHS (Wales) Student Awards Unit wherever you are from in the UK or EU. • Apply in March/April prior to notification of a NHS Funded place. Student Loan – • Apply via your ‘Student Finance Service’ up to 12 months prior to starting at University

  14. Extra Allowances if you have a family These are assessed against your family household income

  15. Who qualifies for Extra allowances for a family? • single parents • students with a spouse/partner in receipt of Benefits OR an equivalent level of income Likely to qualify for the maximum allowances

  16. Who qualifies for Extra allowances for a family? • Students with a spouse/partner and who qualify for Working Tax Credit May qualify for partial allowances This may be the Child Care Allowance only

  17. Extra Allowances & Learning Support • Allowances to help with extra costs of studying related to disability or dyslexia • I.T. Equipment • Learning materials • Copying & books • Other support e.g. note taking, travel This support is non income assessed
