He heard stories of the land containing fertile soil and gold to be found in many rivers. • He arrived in 1508 but there is actually evidence he made a previous exploration around 1506 • His earlier exploration confirmed the presence of gold and gave him a good understanding of the geography Puerto rico

  7. His passing He soon passed after returning to Puerto Rico He was buried in the crypt of San Jose’ Church Then was later moved to the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.
