  4. Ferns can live in a variety of habitats from Mountains-Deserts. • Often succeeding in areas where flowering plants cannot.

  5. Uses of ferns • Remove heavy metals (arsenic) from the soil. • Used in landscaping and decoration. • Fronds (young ferns) can be used as food

  6. 300 million years ago tree ferns dominated landscape • When they died & fell into swamps they eventually formed the coal we use today.

  7. Ferns have an underground stem • Stores food and water.

  8. Life Cycle: 1. Spores find moist spot on ground. 2. Heart shaped plant makes sperm & egg. 3. Young frond grows from fertilized egg. 4. Adult plant will develop spores.
