  1. Sodium Iodide and Povidone Iodine – Their uses

  2. Iodine is the heaviest and the rarest of all the halogens found naturally on the Earth’s crust. In contrast with Bromine and Chlorine which has one basic use that shadows all their other uses Iodine has a number of uses and applications in different forms. The derivatives and different forms of Iodine are used in various industries, medicines and organic chemistry and the importance of applications varies from one another. Iodine is majorly used in Iodisation of salts. Almost half of production of iodine around the world is used to produce Organoidine compounds which is used for iodisation of salt. Although Oganoiodine compounds occur naturally on Earth’s crust but it occurs rarely. Therefore most of Organoiodine compounds are synthesized in labs.

  3. Sodium Iodide manufacturer in India Sodium Iodide is a salt of Iodide and Sodium. Iodine does occur naturally, but in very small amounts. Therefore, most of sodium iodide that is used worldwide are industrially produced by Sodium Hydroxide and acidic-iodides. Sodium Iodide is majorly used in organic chemistry and diet supplements for nutrition. Here are major uses of Sodium Iodide. • Nutritional Supplement – One of the major uses of Sodium Iodide salts is for Iodization of salts. Salts that we consume every day to add taste to our food. Sodium Iodide is added to salts in small quantity to make up for and for prevention of Iodine deficiency in our regular diet. Iodine deficiency is the major cause for preventable mental retardation in adults as well as during foetal development. In regions where Iodine is not naturally present in the soil, the crops do not get Iodine, which means that our body does not get any Iodine. Therefore, Iodisation of salt is very important for a healthy diet and body.

  4. Organic Synthesis – Alkyl Iodides are derived from Alkyl Chlorides with the use of Sodium Iodide because Sodium Iodide tends to be insoluble in Acetone solution. • Nuclear medicine – In conditions such as Hyperthyroidism and Thyroid Cancer, Radioactive Iodides of Sodium such as Sodium Iodide is used in the treatment process. It is also used in images for tracing radiolabels. • Thallium -doped sodium iodide scintillators – Thallium dopes Sodium iodide is a material that is majorly used in Scintillator detectors. Thallium acts as activators for Sodium Iodide, which in turn emits protons when they are subjected to ionizing-radiations. This process is used in nuclear physics, geophysics, and nuclear medicine as scintillation detectors.

  5. Povidone Iodine manufacturer in India Povidone Iodine is a derivative of Iodine that is mainly used for skin disinfection, as antiseptic. It is used topically to treat minor infections, cuts and wounds and to kill bacteria as well. Health providers use Povidone Iodine as well to disinfect their hands of bacteria. It is available in both powder and liquid form. You must not use Povidone Iodine if you are allergic to either Povidone or Iodine. Skin Irritation may also occur as a side effect of using Povidone Iodine on skin. When used in large quantity on major wounds it may cause high level of Sodium in Blood, problems associated with Kidney, and metabolic acidosis. Also people who are taking lithium or are less than 8 months pregnant must avoid using Povidone Iodine.
