  1. Pyramids Lesson 7.3

  2. Warm Up Match each of the following pyramid types with the picture of the pyramid 1. triangular pyramid 2. rectangular pyramid 3. pentagonal pyramid 4.hexagonal pyramid

  3. Definitions Definition of a Pyramid: A pyramid is a polyhedron consisting of a base, which is a polygon, and three or more lateral faces. The lateral faces are triangles that share a single vertex, called the vertex of the pyramid. Each lateral face has one edge in common with the base, called a base edge. The intersection of two lateral faces is a lateral edge. Definition of a Regular Pyramid: A pyramid whose base is a regular polygon and whose lateral faces are congruent isosceles triangles. Definition of Base Edge: An edge that is part of the base of a pyramid; each lateral face has one edge in common with the base. Definition of Lateral Edge: The intersection of two lateral faces of a polyhedron that are not edges of either base. Definition of The Vertex of the Pyramid: The single vertex that all lateral faces in a pyramid have in common.

  4. Surface Area of a Pyramid 7.3.1 The surface area,s, of a regular pyramid with lateral area, L, Base area,B, perimeter of the base, p, and slant height L is S=L+B OR S=(1/2L P)+B

  5. Volume of a Pyramid 7.3.2 The volume, v, of a pyramid with height, h, and base area B is V= 1/3Bh Base area (B) is bottom pink height (h) blue dashed line

  6. Examples Find the surface area of a triangle with lateral area of 5 and a base area of 35. Find the volume of a pyramid with a height of 19 and a base area of 32
