  3. General Objectives • To provide socio-economic reintegration support to the trafficked returnee through temporary shelter service, psychosocial counseling, and vocational skill training to generate sustainable income as well as to raise public awareness by disseminating research out puts.

  4. Specific Objectives: • 100 returnees from Middle East Socio-economically reintegrated, became contributive citizens to the development efforts in their country of origin and made a living through income generation activities tailor made to their interests, experience and skills during project lifetime. • 100 returnees developed self confidence, hope, felt comfortable and enjoyed livelihood opportunities positively in their home country. • 300 returnees get psychosocial support through continuous group and individual counseling. • Public & migrants awareness raised through dissemination of research findings on problems of illegally trafficked women and policy dialogue conducted on the respect for rights of Ethiopian migrants in the Middle East

  5. Basic Activities • Provision of Temporary Shelter for the most vulnerable returnees - The Shelter can accommodate 25 beneficiaries it is furnished

  6. The Shelter can accommodate 25 beneficiaries at a time. It is furnished with beds, TV room, dinning room, entertaining place and filled with other essential facilities

  7. It has feeding program. The shelter is with staff who are taking care of returnees.

Provision of Psychosocial support for the traumatic stressed returnees - medical services in various governmental and non governmental hospitals - Group and individual counseling for returnees by professional counselors and psychiatrists. (So far a total of - Conducting trauma healing workshops to returnees - Integrating returnees to their families

Cont. • Provision of continuous orientation on entrepreneurship and income generation activities • Provide startup capital and initiate business in their respective field • Conduct short term business management training • Organize cooperation, interest groups, credit and saving association • Follow up of credit disbursement and repayment

Stichting Dir • Conducting research on the root causes of labor migration of Ethiopian women to the Middle East. • Focus group discussions were conducted with two separate groups of returnees, identified on the bases of careful selection criteria • Key informant interviews were held with the representatives of pertinent government and private agencies who are able to share insights on the research topic by virtue of their involvement in the process • A discussion workshop was conducted with 96 returnees in order to gather first hand information on their experiences with emphasis on the recruitments process and the conditions they faced in the destinations.

  14. Cont… . Consultative workshop conducted with a view to generating feedback and insights that will enrich the information gathered by means of these methods. Case studies being conducted on individual migrant workers whose experience of severe forms of abuse can best illustrate the magnitude of the problem . Structured interview questionnaire was administered to a total of 285 respondents including 200 returnees and 85 women intending to migrate.. Systematic observations were carried out to gather information related to the root causes of labor migration, the recruitment process of migrants and conditions of returnees .. Additional assessment conducted in Dubai and Kuwait to study the living and working conditions of the women at destination.

What should be done? • Humanitarian aid organization should support the victims and their family • Help strengthen local socio-economic infrastructure; • Identify income-generation options and stimulate participation of returnees; • Promote community development and mitigate pushing factors; • Cooperate with other actors to develop phased assistance • Share information with counterparts in country of asylum/where returnees were living/working
