  3. RAFT – let’s go on an adventure ! Have folder that has all your social studies papers handy

  4. Directions for today’s adventure • Ready,set, RAFT away ! Choose your raft and head out to an exciting adventure! You are invited to become a character who lived during the Early part of US government, Reconstruction, or the West. • R- Role • A- Audience • F- Form • T- Time/topic

  5. You will be the master of your own time and product ! • Pick two out of the four RAFT’s to complete. You must make sure to include important details and facts. • You may use any resource of your choice in the classroom. Textbook, atlas, and of course your binder with worksheets. • You only have this class block to finish and complete your work. A rubric has been provided to show how your work will be graded.

  6. Let’s read about the adventures you will pick from 1)You are the editor of a newspaper in a small New England town. Create a graphic organizer in color, that demonstrates how the new government of the United States works. You will need to include some pictures/visuals as many do not know how to read. The time is 1792, the topic is three branches of government. 2) You are a Freedman living in Georgia. A member of the Freedman’s Bureau has arrived to help you understand your rights as a citizen. Describe the protected rights you know the Federal government has provided you with? What can you explain to the person about how your rights have been denied by your local/state government ? The time is 1887 the topic is Reconstruction.

  7. Adventures 3 and 4 3) You are a Southern landowner in South Carolina. Create an advertisement to attract sharecroppers to your plantation. Provide evidence of how this will be a benefit to them, and how it may be a risk they are taking. Be specific. This time is 1889 the topic is Reconstruction and sharecropping. 4) You are the owner of the Union Pacific railroad line. Create an advertisement to attract people out west to buy land. You must include two different groups of people that would be attracted to the west. Be Specific. The time is 1892 the topic is the West.

  9. What materials can you use to create your product? • Textbook • Atlas- 64-65 • Any worksheets that have been passed out so far. • Chapters 7, 17 sec 3 , and Chapter 18 • Paper • Markers • Colored pencils • Pen/pencil

  10. What will your finished product look like? • You are only limited by your imagination. • You must make sure what you create is answering the question you are picking. • Is there detail, is there correct information? • What do you think needs to be included?
