  3. In 1876 Thomas Alva Edison opened a laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey to explore the possibility for different uses of electrical power. By 1890, Edison established the Edison General Electric Company. In 1892, Thomas Edison merged his company with Charles Coffins company (Thomas-Houston Company) and called the new organization the General Electric Company. Several of Edison's early business offerings are still part of GE today, including lighting, transportation, industrial products, power transmission, and medical equipment

  5. Land, Water, and Air GE’s technologists have reduced the number of cylinders from 16 to 12 in cargo trains making them more fuel efficient and reduce emissions. State of the art gas turbine combustion Tech. (TAPS), is the lowest emissions system ever designed for an air craft. Ford Motor Company had problems with managing waste water and contacted GE for a solution. Not only did they fix Fords problem they reduced water consumption by 230,400 gallons a year.
