  5. 3. Vs. 22-23, The Man Caught in the Trap. The Consequences for the man lacking Doctrine in his heart!

  6. Vs. 22Two analogies of the man who follows the adulteress. He is:

  7. Vs. 22Two analogies of the man who follows the adulteress. He is:1) Slaughtered like a dumb animal.

  8. Vs. 22Two analogies of the man who follows the adulteress. He is:1) Slaughtered like a dumb animal.2) Enchained like a criminal.

  9. The one figure denotes the fate into which he rushes, like a beast devoid of reason, as the loss of life; and the other denotes the fate to which he permits himself to be led by that woman, like a criminal by the officer, as the loss of freedom and of honor.

  10. Jer 4:22, “For My people are foolish, they know Me not; they are stupid children and have no understanding. They are shrewd to do evil, but to do good they do not know.”

  11. Vs. 23“Until an arrow.”

  12. Vs. 23“Until an arrow.”It is not Cupid’s arrow which makes one love-sick, but the arrow of death, which slays those ensnared in sinful love making.

  13. “Pierces through his liver.”The liver is associated with the inner person, which we call the heart or right lobe of the soul.

  14. The destruction or loss of Bible Doctrine previously stored in your heart leads to further reversionism, moral and / or immoral degeneracy, self induced misery, and finally the sin unto death.

  15. In pagan religions the liver was a religious object that was carefully inspected in the process of divination, called extispicy. Cf. Ezek 21:21.

  16. Ezek 21:21, “For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination; he shakes the arrows, he consults the household idols, he looks at the liver.”

  17. “As a bird hastens to the snare.”

  18. “As a bird hastens to the snare.”Psa 16:4a, “The sorrows of those who have bartered (MAHAR) for another god will be multiplied.”

  19. The “sorrows” of self-induced misery are associated with participating in false religions of Satan’s cosmic system.

  20. “Snare” PACH, פַּחUsed exclusively in metaphors of humans being trapped by other humans or by the Lord. Many people are trapped by sin, human good and evil of Satan’s cosmic system.

  21. When false religious systems offer a counterfeit absolution from sins the sinner hurries towards it, especially in times of desperation. A false sense of security results in being slaughtered on the counterfeit sacrificial altar.

  22. “He does not know that it will cost him his life.”Ignorance is not an excuse for the law. The consequences are the consequences.

  23. Failing to continue to acknowledge God in faith and walking in disobedience to His Word in every area of life, results in the loss of life, (experiential and/or physical).1 Cor 11:30

  24. Waltke, “Stupid animals see no connection between traps and death, and morally stupid people see no connection between their sin and death.” Cf. Prov 1:17-18; Hos 7:11.

  25. Hosea 7:11, “So Ephraim has become like a silly dove, without sense; they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.”

  26. Prov 6:32,“The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; he who would destroy himself does it.”
