  2. Teaching Steps: • 1. Arrange the students in pairs and ask them to discuss the questions. • 2. Bring the students’ attention to the language focus box and tell them that they can use the sentences and structures in their conversations.

  3. Part One Question for discussion • 1. What do you dream of becoming? What do you want most in life? • 2. How great are the chances that you can realize your dream? • 3. Do you easily give up when you meet with difficulties? • 4. What do you think is the most important factor in realizing one’s dreams?

  4. 5. What is the hardest thing to do in pursuing one’s dream? • 6. Do you often listen to the radio? • 7. What kind of radio programs do you listen to? What do you think of them? • 8. Which do you like better, radio or television? Why?

  5. Language Focus • When I was young, I wished to become a world famous scientist/ great novelist/ movie star/ pop singer… • What I want most in life is someone that really cares for me/ a house of my own/ a good job. • I never doubt/ have little hope that my dream will come true some day. • My chances of becoming a scientist… are quite good/ very slim.

  6. I’m afraid I don’t stand much chance of becoming a pop singer… • The hardest thing is to keep pursuing one’s dream in spite of difficulties. • I think it is wise to be realistic/ not to aim at something that is beyond you. • Radio and TV connect us to the outside world/ tell us what is happening near and far/ shortens the distance between us and the outside world.

  7. I listen to news… • I prefer TV to radio. TV is visual/ not only tells you what is happening but also lets you see it with your own eyes/ brings the outside world right into your room. • One picture is worth a thousand words. • Compared with radio, everything on television is more lifelike, vivid and real.

  8. Television takes up too much of our time. We no longer have enough time to develop other interests.

  9. Part Two Communicative Function • Asking about Past Events • What happened? • What happened after that? • What did you do then? • Did you do anything else?

  10. What have you been doing lately/ recently? • What did you do at the weekend? • How did your weekend/ holiday go? • What did you think of …? • Did you think the trip was worthwhile?

  11. Asking for Descriptions • I wonder if you could tell me… • How big is …? • How heavy is …? • How does … work? • What’s … made of?

  12. What’s … used for? • What color are …? • Can you describe …? • Tell me about …
