  4. INTRODUCTION • At this moment, the use of the Internet is not something odd anymore. The Internet is used in various areas, like social area, culture, economy,technology,military and education. By using the Internet,people do their job, make money, pour out their heart, and so on. Right now, almost all of people know what Internet is. But, not all people know that Internet can also cause negative effect. Besides Internet, there is also “Intranet”. Beneath it all, what is Internet and Intranet? What is the difference of them both? …………..Let’s find out!

Definition of Internet and Intranet • Internet is the combination of computer network in the whole world that forms a network system of global information. • Intranet is an internal system information network owned by a company or an organization that has the same working principle as the Internet.

  8. The History of Internet How did the beginning of Internet happen? The history of Internet started in 1969. At that time, the U.S Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) decided to do a research about how to connect several computers so it can form an organic network. This research program is known as ARPANET (Advance Research Project Agency). In 1973 the computer network ARPANET began to be developed outside USA.

Services of Internet • World Web Web (www) Applications that contains multimedia files such as : text, image, audio, video. • Electronic Mail (Email) Applications that is used for sending an electronic mail (e-mail) • Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Applications that is used for chatting • Mailing List (Milis) As a place to discussion or sharing information in one group through email application. • Newsgroup Used for communication media in a forum. • File Transfer Protocol Used for sending or taking files from computer to one other computer.

Disadvantages (Negative Impact) of Internet • Pornography • With the ability to hand out information, the pornography site is exploding. • Violence and Gore • A lot of violence and gore are also shown on the internet. • Deception • The Internet is not free of deception attack • Carding • This term is likely used for an activity that is related to credit card. • Decreasing Social Characteristic • Because they tend to like to communicate through the Internet rather than by face to face • Addiction • The Internet can make you addicted especially to pornography.
