  3. SWBAT craft thesis statements containing a clear position and three supporting arguments. Here’s the Deal (Please Write in “Drafts & Edits”): • A thesis statementis the main idea of your essay. It’s the point you’re trying to prove. • It’s almost like a “prediction” about your essay that you, as a writer, make come true when you write your body paragraphs.

  4. Review: SWBAT use “T” charts to pre-write persuasive essays. • Upon first glimpse of a persuasive essay prompt, take the following steps for guaranteed success: 1. Isolate the question by annotating the prompt. 2. Create a “T” chart with pros and cons. 3. Determine which position is most “writeable.” 4. Craft your thesis statement. Include… -Your position on the topic; -Three clear, distinct supporting arguments.

On the graphic organizers provided, thoughtfully build a “T” chart and thesis statement for each prompt from Ms. Fitz. • In total, you will complete four “T” charts and thesis statements of your own. If you do not finish in class, it will be due tomorrow as homework. • You may converse – quietly and constructively. If conversations turn loud and/or unconstructive, we’ll work silently.
