  4. Students in Year 10 may also be recommended for a VCE Maths subject. This subject is Advanced Maths – Unit 1&2 General Maths This is a completely different subject to General Maths at Yr 11 as it prepares you for Units 3&4 Maths Methods and Specialist Maths

  5. Advanced Maths –Units 1&2 General Maths This subject can also be taken in Yr11 if you did not do it in Yr 10 and you want to better prepare yourself for Units 3&4 Maths Methods and Specialist Maths

  6. Choices at Yr 11 • Maths Methods • Maths General • VCAL Numeracy • No Maths

  7. How do we recommend? • Maths Methods Units 1&2- should be getting at least a B in tests in Methods and on the Yr 10 Methods exam. • This leads To Maths Methods and Specialist Maths at Yr 12

  8. Maths General Units 1&2- • should have achieved above C in tests for General Maths at Yr10 or completed Maths Methods at Yr10 • This leads to Further Mathematics in Yr12

  9. FURTHER MATHEMATICS IN YR11 • Intended for highly capable maths students who would like to do a 3&4 maths in Yr 11 • You must be sure that you will be doing Maths Methods in Yr 12 (as you won’t be able to do Further Maths in Yr12 if you’ve already done it in Yr11) • You must have done Yr10 Advanced Maths and be recommended by your teacher.

  10. How do you make the choice? • Advice from your current maths teacher • Possible maths prerequisites for tertiary study • Be realistic. Your performance NOW, not when you work harder or get a tutor, is your best measure of what course is in your best interests.
