The Brown family They have many underlying issues, they are: • Leaving friends and family • New baby on the way • Thomas needing constant attention • Worry of reoccurring post natal depression • Added stress due to unfamiliar setting • Extra pressure because of new job Gemma Ivey, (O.T.)   2. Thomas Occupational Therapist Speech and language therapist Physiotherapist Social worker Dietician G.P Social services – for adaptation and aids Gina Midwife Psychologist or CPN Social worker G.P Counsellor Occupational Therapist – coping strategies and anxiety management Professionals

Development, functional ability and lifestyle of Thomas • Progressive disease ( Cerebral Palsy) - it will possibly get worse • Learning difficulties – slow down development in school • Possibility of never being fully independent- always need aids and support e.g. walking aids and adaptations, compensatory approach. • Communication and swallowing problems – will need a referral to a speech and language therapist. • Eating – diet will need to be controlled. • Range of movement – Thomas’s play will be affected.

  4. Thomas – if attending a special needs school the pro’s and con’s are: Pro – Support for the family, Less chance of being discriminated against, more specific help, teachers have more understanding of condition Con – isolation from children in mainstream schools. Gina’s goals: Short term – see G.P, attend counsellor Medium – support for Claire Long – on-going treatment for depression. Education and Goals
