  1. Ant societies By Kenta Fogarty

  2. evolution • It is believed that ants have evolved from wasps and have lived on Earth for at least 100 million years.

  3. Ant colonies • Ants are colony makers and their colonies may contain from a few to 20 million individuals.

  4. Species • The ant family contains more than 4 500 described species that can be found in tropical or temperate areas of the world.

  5. Why do ants live in Colonies • The Colony has one goal to ensure the reproduction and survival of its common genes. The brood or eggs therefore becomes the nucleus of the colony.

  6. Structure of an Ant Society The Queen ;The queen’s job is to lay eggs and to give orders to other ants. She mates with drones and then returns to her nest. She can choose the sex of each egg and usually produces workers. Drones; These are male ants. They always have wings so that they can mate with the queen this is their only job. Workers; these are infertile females. They have special jobs to do. Some gather food, some clean, some care for the eggs and others defend the colony.

  7. How are human beings like ants? • I believe human beings are like ants because they work together to build their highly structured society. Like human beings ants have leaders that keep the colony working together to get things done. Ant colonies often resemble major cities that human beings live in with millions of people living in a small area.

  8. A new Human Society-just like the ants • If humans live like ants this is what it would like • Only a few people would breed. • You wouldn’t be able to move countries. • You would have the same job for the rest of your life. • You wouldn’t have any break from work.

  9. Is This a Better Way to live? • I believe if we lived like ants we would not have a choice, we would have no education , we would have no break s and we would work every day and night . I believe living in a society like our human society is the way to live.
