  1. OECD OCDE ORGANISATION DE COOPÉRATION ET DE DEVELOPMENT ÉCONOMIQUES Integrating ISIC trade data into the WBC ORGANISATION FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT STATISTICS DIRECTORATE – INTERNATIONAL TRADE & STRUCTURAL ECONOMIC STATISTICS 1

  2. Current status • Trade values converted from commodity to activity classifications • Conversions & availability: - SITC 2 -> ISIC 2 from 1970; - HS 88 -> ISIC 3 from 1988 to 1995; - HS 96 -> ISIC 3 after 96

  3. Conversion methods • For ISIC 2: - some commodities split between ISIC sectors; - only for manufacturing • For ISIC 2 & 3: aggregation at the higher level using subtractions

  4. Current dissemination • ISIC data currently not published in ITCS • Derived data from ITCS mainly used by STAN/BTD database • In STAN/BTD, some ISIC 3 codes (wastes & scraps) are re-allocated

  5. Harmonisation & new conversion keys • Need for harmonisation between ITCS and STAN/BTD conversion keys • STI/STD will study possible approximations to improve ISIC data availability • Possible extension of ISIC 2 data to non manufacturing activities

  6. Transfer & migration • 1st step: ISIC 2 & 3 historical data transferred in the new database • 2nd step: historical data recalculated using new ISIC 3 conversion keys; • 3rd step: data comparison between 1 & 2, review and implementation

  7. Future dissemination • In the WBC • In OECD.Stat • STAN/BTD
