  7. A major link in the logistics goods chain TERTIR occupies an outstanding position in port terminal operations. Consolidating its know-how in the concession of public infrastructures, TERTIR provides public service in the operation of Portugal's main terminals: containers, break-bulk and bulk cargoes, both foodstuffs and industrial. In this way, the ports of Lisbon, Leixões (Oporto), Setúbal, Aveiro and Figueira da Foz are served by a structures providing international quality standards and reliable services. The present link between these port terminals and the national railway network is a critical factor, opening up competitive access to the entire western region of the Iberian Peninsula and in particular, to the major metropolitan regions of Lisbon and Madrid.

Portugal’s first private railway operator, fully equipped to provide Iberian operations Takargo is the first private Portuguese railway operator equipped to act continuously throughout the Iberian Peninsula, turning the railway into an economically viable and environmentally efficient mode of transport for goods between the port terminals, the logistic platforms and the end customers. For the three transport areas - intermodal sea, intermodal cars and specialized intermodal - one also includes services provided using swap bodies. Cargo handling and transfer between the various modes of transport are provided throughout a coherent terminal network, while complementary road services can also be provided. Management of cargo flows using the various modes is a critical success factor on customer relations, and for this reason Takargo has implemented a service on the Internet designed to provide permanent cargo monitoring.

TERTIR’s forwarder business at a global level An outstanding platform in generating synergies within TERTIR, Transitex is the forwarder company that articulates all the movement of containers between logistic platforms and the port terminals, while also making full use of intermodal transport. TERTIR also provide services in Oporto and Aveiro Ports as shipping agent, trough local companies. Transitex has accompanied the internationalization of Mota-Engil Group. Its branches in Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, Mozambique and Angola, and a network of exclusive agents in Mexico, Brazil, Russia and China reflect the extent of Transitex's world influence. At Iberian level, Transitex is now a benchmark for the flow of containerized goods. The company plays a fundamental role in extending the hinterland of the port terminals operated by TERTIR in Portugal, and provides competitive access to the export foreland for Spanish companies located in the country's western and central provinces.

Response to the challenges of competitiveness supported on the country’s biggest logistic platform A TERTIR subsidiary, LOGZ, is the promoter of the logistic platform at Poceirão, the biggest of Portugal Logistic. Located near Lisbon and a part of the national logistic platform network, the Poceirão platform will provide the infrastructure required to respond to the challenges of competitiveness and intermodality. Its location allows it to serve the city of Lisbon, Lisbon's future international airport at Alcochete and the ports of Lisbon, Setúbal and Sines, while the road and rail facilities ensure excellent access to Portugal and to Spain. The rail interconnection between Sines, Setúbal and Lisbon will bring Spain closer, though its articulation with the new Lisbon-Madrid high-speed railway to be built with an upgraded conventional railway connection.
