Characteristics • Oceans cover 71 percent of Earth’s surface. • About 25 percent of all the world’s oil comes from beneath the ocean floor. • An ocean is a self containing world with a complex food chain. • Many organisms have adapted to extreme and unusual conditions of the ocean. • The ocean surface temperature is 28 degrees Fahrenheit. • Ocean water has tiny specks of gold floating in it.

  3. Location • There are four main types of oceans. They are the Indian, Pacific, Arctic, and Atlantic oceans.

  4. Plant Life • Some plants in the ocean are kelp, algae, Diatoms, and seaweed.

  5. Animal Life • Ocean is home to the smallest plankton and the largest creature on Earth, the blue whale. • The Spiny Eel has a slender, elongated body and a rounded snout that projects beyond the mouth. • Basking Sharks swim with it’s mouth open, taking a lot of water and plankton and filtering it through the gills.
