  2. History and feelings toward each other • In 1967 the Palestinians lost in a 6 day war against Israel. They also lost land. • On November 15, 1988 they received Political independence. • Yasser Arafat was the first president of the PLO. • Palestinians are mad because the Jewish people just came and said the land was theirs and the received half of it and eventually more.

Leaders, Political Independence, Legal Rights, and Obstacles • The Fatah the group that the USA associates with there leader is Mahmoud Abbas. • The Palestinians Just want land and a home to call there own . • They don’t have many The IDF can just come into peoples houses for no reason. • One obstacle is no one is willing to share the land or split it evenly.

  5. How, When, Why was Israeli Established • The United Nation suggested dividing Palestine into two countries, one Arab, and one Jewish. The Arab leaders said no to the plan but the Jewish leaders accepted and declared it the state of Israel. • Around the 11th century BCE. • Was made homeland for Jewish people. • Current leader of Israel- is the president Shimon Peres. • The IDF can just break into anyone's house including Palestinians.

  6. What is Zionism and Obstacles Israelis have • Zionism is the belief that Israel has a right to exist as a democratic Jewish State nothing more nothing less. • It is the nation liberation movement of the Jewish people. • They just like the Palestinians want the land all to themselves.

As the conflict continues in the Middle East, the search for an fair solution must come to grips with the root cause of the conflict. The problem is that, even if both sides are at fault, the Palestinians are irrational “terrorists” who have no point of view worth listening to. Our position, however, is that the Palestinians have a real grievance: their homeland for over a thousand years was taken, without their consent and mostly by force, during the creation of the state of Israel. And all subsequent crimes on both sides inevitably follow from this original injustice. Traditionally, the Old City has been divided into four uneven quarters, although the current designations were introduced only in the 19th century. Today, the Old City is roughly divided into the Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter. Following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War the Old City found itself located entirely on the Jordanian side of the demarcation line. During the Six Day War in 1967, which saw hand to hand fighting on the Temple Mount, Israel occupied the Old City alongside the rest of East Jerusalem. What religious obstacles are standing in the way of a peace settlement? Some of the obstacles that stand in the way of peace have received much attention in this country. Suicide bombings directed against Israeli civilians have been massively condemned, and the Palestinian leadership subjected to relentless diplomatic, economic and military pressure from both Israel and the U.S. to find and arrest the bombers. Global Exchange condemns violence directed against civilians, and we mourn the deaths of all innocents—Israelis who have been the victims of bombings, and the much larger number of Palestinian civilians killed by the Israeli military and by settlers. Religion Are there any similarities between the religions? • Monotheistic religions, they believe that there is only one God and that this God is the origin and source of all that exists. • They all believe that We are the children of Abraham. • Share similar prophets (Moses) • Hopeful about the future. Evil and suffering cannot ultimately prevail. God has provided a condition (or state of being) for us = Paradise. • God and human beings can and should communicate with each other. By revelation God communicates to people, among which the most important are revelation through prophets. (Holy books)   What religious claims can each side make towards the land of Israel? • Palestinians and Islamics are using religious fervor to ignite the masses in a national struggle, In Islam, religion and nationalism are intertwined together • The Middle East has been the focus of conflict for hundreds of years; and currently Israeli-Palestinian relations are dangerously unstable. As a result of religious and cultural differences, Jews and Arabs battle each other in an attempt to solidify their own sovereignty.  As a result of these unsettling times the President of the United States of America has assembled a Middle East Advisory Committee to inform him on the Arab-Israeli conflict.  You have been chosen as a member of this committee, and it is your job to assume one of the assigned roles and to report to the President the pertinent information that will help him better understand the nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to conclude whether or not a peace plan is resolvable.  Do not take this job lightly, the security of the world depends on a resolution.

  9. Peace Treaty Problem • Problems that prevent a peace treaty include: • Both of the nationalities want all the land for themselves. • Both nationalities also want Jerusalem for themselves.

  10. Peace Treaty Solution • The solution we came up with is: • First off they would split the land 50/50 • Secondly both the countries would share Jerusalem together. • But in that situation both countries would have to help govern Jerusalem
