History: • 1981 René Blok joins the Ideasystem as a rookie • 1981 PTT has more than 100.000 employees • 1981 PTT gets 1000 ideas a year • 1981 Handling time on average is 20 weeks • 1981 Ideacards and there were no computers • 1987 The suggestion system is decentralised • 1987 Every district gets his own Ideabox • 1987 Still 1000 ideas a year on average • 1987 Handling time still about 20 weeks • 1987 There were no net savings www.ideamanagement.nl

Changes: • 1993 No dramatic changes over the last 40 years • 1993 PTT becomes KPN and Ideamanagement is born • 1993 TIM is Telecom Idea Management • 1993 TIM goes to the Quality Department at KPN • 1993 No idea committees anymore just idea managers • 1993 ‘Cash on the nail’ concept is introduced • 1993 Stuffy image has to go and Rodin is the new logo • 1993 Simple rules for the new department • 1993 Ideamanagement has to be a lot of fun • 1993 This year is the turning point in history www.ideamanagement.nl

  4. Results: • 1993 5500 ideas, 10 million guilders net savings and handling time drops. Now 7 weeks on average per idea. • 1994 TIM gets ISO-certificate and reward from Ideacenter 5200 ideas, handling time 6 weeks and 11 million guilders net savings • 1995 TIM works with special themes and makes his own phonecard, 5300 ideas, handling time 5 weeks and net savings 12 million guilders • 1996 Every employee knows TIM, unique incentives Dutch people love lotteries and we have a great TIM-lottery called Think our way come up with a great idea. 6700 ideas, net savings 30 million guilders and handling time 6 weeks www.ideamanagement.nl

  5. Internet: • 1997 TIM starts own homepage www.goldenideas.nl and everyone can submit ideas 24 hours a day. Booming business with 6800 ideas a year, 80 million guilders net savings and handling time of 7 weeks • 1998 Posters and best ideas on the homepage give more publicity. Dutch people love Internet and it shows. 5000 ideas, 22 million guilders net savings and handling time of 6 weeks • 1999 René has an idea to organise the first International Idea Conference in the Netherlands (Kijkduin) and starts his International Benchmark. TIM receives 4000 ideas, gets 14 million guilders net savings and handling time of 8 weeks on average www.ideamanagement.nl

Best Practice: • 2000 TIM is chosen Best Practice in the Netherlands by the University of Nijenrode. • 2000 TIM organises the International Idea Conference in Kijkduin, has 150 participants and gets a lot of publicity. The conference is a big hit. • 2000 TIM brings out the Ideamanagement CDROM. • 2000 TIM wins the Creativity award by Ideacenter • 2000 Net savings: 109 million guilders; 4000 ideas and average idea handling time of 9 weeks www.ideamanagement.nl
