  1. 11-18 Learning Target • I can identify difficulties with using a printing press. • Essential Question: How has print media affected my society?

  2. Opening Activity • Complete the opening activity. • You can either use ink pads with the letter stamps, or you can trace around the letters. • You have 10 minutes!

  3. Vocabulary • Johannes Gutenberg—inventor of movable type and the printing press • Movable type—blocks individual letters that you can move in order to print words and pages • Printing press—machine that evenly distributes ink onto paper or cloth—used to copy books

  5. Gutenberg Article • Read the Gutenberg article and answer the question on the back of the worksheet.

  6. Printing Press Difficulties • On the back of your opening activity worksheet, write 2 paragraphs discussing what difficulties using a printing press would include. Be sure to include what technology we have today to help us avoid these problems. • Think about your opening activity to help you think of problems—what made it difficult to complete the activity?

  7. Closing Response • How did the printing press affect society?
