Learning Objectives Learning objectives need to be: Appropriate- age related with differentiation something the children need to learn Clear so that they give focus to the lesson Shared with the children do not have to write in books especially for those children who find writing difficult (sticky labels)

    11. Build upon previous learning Explain that objectives need to be broken down into what is actually being learnt in the lesson. Can use a part of the objective and it could last for more than one lesson Not mixed up with the activity e.g. to write your own version of the trials of Hercules should be to write a myth Learning Objectives

An example of a unit of work linked to World War 2 Phase 1 Read an extract from the machine gunners by Robert Westall (could also be the class novel) Phase 2 Gathering ideas use of pictures, drama, role play, artefacts Incidental writing Phase 3 Main writing outcome could be story , newspaper report, historical report Phase 4 (Possibly) Sometimes there is a 4th phase if speaking and listening activities form the outcome for one of the phases before writing take place.
