  1. Status of theStearns Road Bridge Corridor February 2007

  2. Project Overview The Stearns Road Corridor will include a new Fox River Bridge and a 4.6-mile new road realignment that extends from approximately the Kane/DuPage County line to Randall Road. In August, 2005, an additional $70.4 million federal funds was earmarked in SAFETEA-LU Bill for the project. The project cost is estimated at $165 million. During 2007, the County will continue engineering and right-of-way acquisition, and construction of the wetland mitigation site. The corridor is broken down into 6 stages and is expected to be open to vehicular traffic, Fall 2010.

  3. Stage 1 Stage 1: Environmental Stage 1 includes construction of wetland mitigation site, detention basins and preliminary earthwork. The construction of this stage of the project began November 2006, and be completed by December 2008.

  4. Stage 1A Stage 1A: 3 Bridges Stage 1A includes construction of three bridges: IL 31 over Stearns Road, westbound Stearns Road over North Arm Brewster Creek and Dunham Road over CNIC Railroad. The construction of this stage of the project is expected to begin October 2007, and be completed by December 2008.

  5. Stage 2 Stage 2: McLean Intersections Stage 2 includes construction of the CNIC Railroad bridge over McLean Boulevard and construction of the new Stearns Road at McLean Boulevard intersection. The construction of this stage of the project is expected to begin November 2008, and be completed by July 2010.

  6. Stage 3 Stage 3: IL 25/Dunham/Stearns Stage 3 includes the realignment of Stearns Road with IL 25 and Dunham Road to provide a standard 4-legged intersection with improved geometrics and signalization. The construction of this stage of the project is expected to begin January 2009, and be completed by December 2010.

  7. Stage 4 Stage 4: McLean to IL 25 Stage 4 includes the construction of the new Stearns Road corridor from McLean Boulevard to IL 25, including a new Stearns/IL 25 intersection, IL 25/Gilbert intersection, widening of IL 25 Bridge over Brewster Creek and the construction of the new bridge over the Fox River. The construction of this stage of the project is expected to begin January 2009, and be completed by December 2010.

  8. Stage 5 Stage 5: West Segment Stage 5 includes the construction of the new Stearns Road corridor from Randall Road to McLean Boulevard, including the McDonald/Randall and the McLean/Stearns intersections, a new intersection at Umbdenstock, and a new bridge over the CNIC railroad. The construction of this stage of the project is expected to begin January 2009, and be completed by October 2010.
