  8. Verse 19

  9. Verse 19The prudent being crowned with knowledge in vs. 18, is now contrasted with evildoers bowing down before good people as to kings.

  10. The evil person will be forced at last to acknowledge that the righteous had chosen the better path.

  11. Phil 2:10-11, “So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

  12. Verse 20

  13. Verse 20The arrogant want nothing to do with someone that they can not gain from so they avoid them all together.

  14. Prov 19:7,“All the brothers of a poor man hate him; how much more do his friends abandon him! He pursues them with words, but they are gone.”

  15. Yet, the well-to-do persons with significant power and influence socially and politically are loved by many because they can gain something from them.

  16. Prov 19:4,“Wealth adds many friends, but a poor man is separated from his friend.”

  17. Prov 19:6,“Many will seek the favor of a generous man, and every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.”

  18. Prov 18:24,“A man of too many friends comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

  19. Prov 22:2,“The rich and the poor have a common bond, the LORD is the maker of them all.”

  20. Luke 14:13-14,“But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

  21. Verse 21

  22. Verse 21Hating or despising our neighbor is, in the eyes of God, sin.

  23. Being merciful and gracious, CHANAN, חָנַן, is the profession of the believer who functions under their Royal Priesthood and Royal Ambassadorship.

  24. When we humble ourselves and get involved in the life of those who are suffering, and afflicted, we are blessed with the happiness of God, +H.

  25. We are warned against hating our neighbor and exhorted to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Lev 19:18; Mat 22:39-40; Rom 13:9-10

  26. Verse 22

  27. Verse 22The warning and exhortation of vs. 21 continues.

  28. The person who moves away from God’s righteous path will become lost spiritually. They first despise their neighbor, and then will devise evil plans against him.

  29. But lovingkindness and faithfulness will be the reward for those who love, (i.e., devise good plans towards), their neighbor.

  30. This is an example of the Christ like nature, Ex 34:6, “Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth.”
