  9. Beliefs Beliefs are…fundamental values; ethical code, overriding convictions, inviolable principles that form the bedrock of a community. Why do we start with beliefs? Beliefs are…moral and ethical priorities that move the organization to commit to a mission and guide all of the organization’s behaviors.

  10. Beliefs Protocol • Individual list of beliefs • Individual top 3 • Group top 3 • Teams take gallery walk-identifying most strongly held beliefs

  11. Examples • The classroom teacher is the most important resource for student learning. • Every student is uniquely capable and deserves to learn each day. • Learning is a life-long pursuit.

  18. Beliefs • Using list of beliefs, for each statement, mark the following: • + I agree with the statement • - I disagree with the statement • ? I do not understand what the statement means

  19. Beliefs • For the set of Beliefs listed as #1, identify key words you agree with the most

  20. Vision • What are your highest hopes for students? • What do you envision as the desired, ideal future? • What you hope the organization will cause to happen? • What is the purpose of the organization’s existence?

  21. Vision Protocol • Step 1: • Each team member writes a one-sentence statement that captures their envisioned future (3 min).

  22. Vision Protocol • Step 2: • Each team member shares their vision statement with a partner • Each team member shares their vision statement with the group • Facilitators will capture key words from each shared vision statement
