  2. Dennis Rader Biography • Born March 9, 1945 in Pittsburg, Kansas • Had 3 siblings he was the oldest. • As a child he was known torture animals. • Attended Kansas Wesleyan University. • Spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. (1966-1970)

  3. Personal Life • Attended Butler Community College in El Dorado earning a degree in Electronics. • Then attended Wichita State University earning a bachelors degree in Administration of Justice.

  4. Murders • His first victims was the Otero family. • This occurred on January 15, 1974 • The father of the family Joseph was found face down on the floor at the end of his bed and his wrists and ankles had been bound together, he was suffocated to death. • Mother Julie was found bound in similar fashion but she had been gagged. • 9 year old Joe Jr was found bound also but had been suffocated with 3 hoods over his head.

  5. Murders • Josephine the 11 year old sister was found in the basement she had been hung with a noose and hung from a drain pipe. • She was discovered with only a sweatshirt on and her underwear were missing.

  6. Next victim • His next victim would be Kathryn Bright and her brother Kevin. • Rader waited in Kathryn’s house until her return and when she did he held her brother at gun point and forced him to tie up his sister • Rader then proceeded to tie up Kevin and gag him. • He would then rape and stab Kathryn. • Kevin managed to escape and seek help for his sister but she would later die at the hospital.

  7. Letters to the Press Police and Public • Rader was smarter than he appeared and he would send letters to the various law enforcement officials and press. • These letters contained the exact and every detail of every murder and torture .

  8. Arrested • Rader would be later arrested in 2005 for his killings. • He is currently serving 10 consecutive life sentences which totals 175 years in prison for his crimes.
