  1. Data Archive Ingest WGReport for MOIMS Closing Plenary Colorado Springs, CO, USA, 24 April 2009 Chair – John Garrett Deputy – David Giaretta

  2. DAI WG REPORT CONTENTS • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS OF WG • CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES • OTHER ISSUE AND CONCERNS • PROPOSED WG RESOLUTIONS/ACTION ITEMS

  3. DAI WG REPORT SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • DAI WG • Goal: Complete updates for OAIS Reference Model, Issue 2 • Goal:Develop a CCSDS/ISO standard for a Submission Information Package (SIP) for transfer and validation of information submitted to an archive • Working Group Status: Active • Working Group Summary Situation:

  4. DAI WG REPORT B. SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS: OAIS RM Working Group Summary progress: • Resolved all remaining issues with OAIS update. • Responded to all comments (~200) from 5 year review of the OAIS Reference Model. WG has interacted with comment originators in regard to our response to comments. • Met with CCSDS Editor and CCSDS ISO liaison in regard to processing of this document through CCSDS and ISO approval processes • WG stressed that ISO number should not change • CCSDS ISO liaison is checking if change from BB to MB would result in changed ISO number. • Schedule (major deliverables only) • 2009-06-15 OAIS Reference Model Pink Book 1.1 (to become Blue) to CESG for approval

  5. DAI WG REPORT B. SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS: PAIS Working Group Summary progress: • A list of issues with the draft Producer Archive Interface Standard (PAIS) White Book-10 were reviewed and several were resolved. • Group IDs, undescribed groups, etc. • Drafting of RB to follow • One PAIS implementation available based on earlier draft, will be updated later this year to current draft; Second implementation to be started this year • Schedule (major deliverables only) • 2009-06-30 PAIS Red Book to CESG for approval

  6. DAI WG REPORT • CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES • Issue 1 Concern that Magenta Books could run into problems in transition to ISO Standard. No Magenta Book has been approved as an ISO Standard (1 has been submitted). • Issue 2 OAIS Issue 2 should remain a CCSDS Standard (Blue Book) • Change of color will be confusing to community (largest for any CCSDS document) • Change of color will likely be seen by the community as a demotion • Change of color could result in renumbering by ISO. • Renumbering would cause confusion in the community and would result in inconsistent use of new and old standard. • Renumbering would dilute effectiveness of previous efforts to ensure community acceptance and use of standard. • Such changes could diminish the image of CCSDS in the wider community.

  7. DAI WG REPORT • CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES (from previous meetings) • Issue 1 CESG/CMC should investigate additional sources for determining requirements and priorities for Archiving. • IOAG is primarily oriented to communications and has little interest or expertise in Archiving areas • Issue 2 Our CCSDS Standards (which specify registries, e.g. ADIDs) also become ISO standards. We want a single registry of all registered items that is respected by and used by entire community (both CCSDS and ISO outside of CCSDS). • If needed for community acceptance, separate Maintenance Agencies (MAs) (outside CCSDS) should be allowed. • If a separate MA for registry is specified, then CCSDS SANA should point to it appropriately. • If SANA handles the registry, should support mechanism for supporting registrations from outside CCSDS Members.

  8. DAI WG REPORT • OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS • None

  9. DAI WG REPORT • PROPOSED RESOLUTIONS AND ACTIONS FOR CESG/CMC APPROVAL RESOLUTION 1Action 1: OAIS RM Issue 2 should be grandfathered in as a Blue Book

  10. DAI WG REPORT • Need to meet with other CCSDS WGs, BoFs, etc. MOIMS – IPR MOIMS – RAC WG members also participate in SEA – SANA? SEA – REG/REP? SEA – IA?

  11. DAI WG REPORT F. Projects • Current - Producer-Archive Interface Specification (PAIS) • Current – OAIS Reference Model update • Current – PAIS Tutorial • Future? - XML Version of (PVL) Control Authority Data Structures • Future? - XML Schema version of DEDSL (now Abstract, PVL, XML/DTD) • Future? - New forms of SFDU Referencing Environment
