  6. What is Non-point Source Water Pollution? • Pollutants that enter our surface water through many different unknown sources. • Human caused pollution on the land that gets washed into the water from rainwater.

  7. Soapy discharge from car washing. Drains to the ocean and local creeks.

  8. Cleaning detergents, and gas from boats in Makah Marina.

  9. Trash and debris floating in Makah Marina in boat run-off.

  10. What Makah Fisheries Management is Doing for NPS: • Failing culvert replacement. • River and creek bank stabilization. -Tree and Native shrub planting. -River bank matting. • Education and Outreach -Talk to you… - Public awareness!!!

  12. What Can You Do to Prevent NPS? • Purchase household detergents, & cleaners low in phosphorous. Keep soap out of street, water, and yard. • Dispose of used oil, antifreeze, paints, and other household chemicals properly –DO NOT HOSE INTO THE STREET. • Keep trash, pet wastes, leaves, and debris out of street gutters and storm drains

  13. Why Does our Tribe Need to Protect our Water Resources? • To preserve our culture, and resources for future generations. • To keep the community and fish population healthy.
