Location • Absolute Location: 20° 54' to 26° 23' N 104° 29' to 112° 03' E • Relative Location: Guangxi is located in the southern part of China, it is west of Yunnan; north to Guizhou , northeast to Hunan , and southeast to Guangdong . It is also by Vietnam in the southwest and the Gulf of Tonkin in the south.

  3. Physical Characteristics • Bodies of water: Guangxi has a short coastline on the Gulf of Tonkin. Major rivers include Hongshui River • Landforms: Guangxi is a mountainous region

Climate and Animal Life • Climate: Crossed by the Tropic of Cancer in the central part, Guangxi has a sub-tropical climate with plentiful rainfall, frequent rainstorms and typhoons in summer and autumn • Animals: Tonkin snub nosed monkeys, caovitgibbons, giant flying squirrels, southern serow, Asiatic black bear, musk deer, silver pheasants

  5. Natural Vegetation • Natural vegetation- About 3,000 different species of plants have been found in Guangxi.122 of these plants are near extinction. The region is well known for high-quality shaddock, banana, pineapple and orange

  6. Human characteristics • Population: 47,700,000 • Ethnic Groups: Han, Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Dong, and Gelao • Language: Southwestern Mandarin, Cantonese, Pinghua, and Zhuang • Customs: Gexu Festival, Huapao Festival, Tiaopo Festival, Gushe Festival, Lusheng Festival

  7. Economy and Government • Economy: Motor vehicle manufacturing tin, manganese, indium, rice, sweet potatoes, wheat, sugar cane, peanuts, and tobacco production • Government: Guangxi’s chairman is Ma Biao

  8. Customs • These peoples often wear their native garb, colorful and bright costumes made of hand-woven cloth and embroidered with exquisite designs. The women tend to favor silver ornaments such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, hairpins and buttons. Men and women alike are fond of singing and dancing. Guangxi is known as the "Ses of Songs", because the Zhuang people are famous for singing their way through life. They sing of love, of play, of work, of sadness, of happiness, of celebration and of mourning. They sing to urge guests to drink at parties and to urge the gods to send rain for the crops. Every spring and autumn, young people dress up and gather together to sing such songs at the “Singing Festival".

  12. Movement of people and goods Guangxi was meant for the Zhuangpeople. • ShaTianPomeloes- The size of the fruit is medium. Its rind is thick. Its inner peel of the fruit is thin and the pulp is white and light red. It is sweet and juicy. • Wu Tang Sugar Cane-it is people's favorite "fruit" in autumn or in winter • Major import products included soybeans (US$676 million), mechanical and electrical products (US$586 million), spinning fibers (US$383 million), coal (US$254 million), and high and new-tech products (US$237 million) • Mechanical and electrical products remained the most important export products for the Guangxi province. Other important export products are travel goods, boxes and bags (US$207 million), rolled steel (US$162 million), porcelain and pottery wares (US$114 million), and high and new-tech products (US$106 million) • Guangxi’s largest foreign trade partner is Vietnam • Textiles, paper, flour, silk, leather, cotton, ramie cloths, bamboo paper, rice paper, bamboo combs, matches, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals well as sandarac gum, sugar, dyestuffs, oils, fats, automobiles, and heavy diesel engines are all produced in Guangxi.

  13. Facts • 1.Guangxi served as the base for one of the most powerful warlord cliques of China. • 2.During Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution, Guangxi was the site of thousands of incidences of cannibalism.
