  2. The cinema was invented by the Lumiere brothers in 1895.

  3. At first the movies were silent, with live piano music as soundtrack. People enjoyed this new way of entertainment.

  4. Soon the first film studios appeared.

  5. And a series of great actors just began to be born. • Remember the comedians Oliver Hardy and Stanley Laurel,

  6. The beautiful Veronica Lake

  7. Or the immortal Charlie Chaplin, here in the famous scene in the Gold Rush, where he is eating his boot, made of licorice.

  8. At the late ’20s the Golden Age of Hollywood was at its beginning. • Famous actors, myths, sacred monsters of the cinema began to shine while the sound film was invented. • We just called them STARS.

  15. Then, Hollywood began to reach its dawn, for a while. No more stars, no more famous films, no more glamour. • In the ’70’s the detective movies and the sci-fi productions revived the film industry at Hollywood.

  16. It’s time for James Bond,

  17. and for space sagas

  18. Nowadays fantasy dominates the box office as well as sci-fi.

  19. In Europe, some non American figures entertained the youth of our parents. Brigitte Bardot

  20. It was hard to break the American domination, but not impossible.

  21. Today the film industry lives another decade of fall. Soap operas are at fashion, until the movie will revive again.
