  2. Cilia • Small, hair like organelles used for locomotion • Only found in eukaryotic cells • Similar to eukaryotic flagella

  3. Flagella • Larger/longer than Cilia, whip-like tail appearance • Three general kinds, Bacterial and Archaeal (corkscrew), and Eukaryotic (whip, similar to cilia) • Flagellum of male sperm is a modified cilium

  6. Diseases • Ciliary defects can lead to a large variety of diseases • Primary Ciliary Diskenisia, Polycistic Kidney Disease, Bardet-Biedl Syndrome, ectopic pregnancy, and male infertility
