  1. HRE 4MI ISU CHURCH & CULTURE COURSE CULMINATING ACTIVITY – Research Report: AWARENESS, ANALYSIS, ACTION (15%)

  2. Purpose and Audience: You are part of the social justice committee at St David. Your committee has been asked by the school administration to develop a report to determine what issue our school should raise awareness of and act on through using the Circle of Faith in Action model (awareness, analysis, action). The final part of the report will focus on our Catholic response and determine an organization we (St David) should support through our fundraising/volunteering.

  3. Volunteer Placement This social issue (injustice) must be related to a student’s volunteer placement. This will be worth 15% of the 30% final mark. The report must be typed, 12 point font, double spaced, and be approximately 6-10 pages in length. This assignment is REPORT format (headings and subheadings)

  4. Volunteer placement ideas… • The placement ideas include any volunteer placement that serves the community or serves the poor and vulnerable.  • It could be the food bank, Conversation Club, eco-team, Wayve, retirement home, volunteering with the hospital, reading buddies at KPL or WPL or volunteering for any sport that is not for profit • You must serve at least 15 hours http://www.volunteerkw.ca/

Research Report (Big Picture) Directions: AWARENESS* Research Statement* What is the issue (define and explain)* How many people are affected (stats)* Why relevant/how causes individual suffering/community due to unmet needs* Cultural /social changes with regards to issue / government support or lack of ANALYSIS* Four factors that contribute to or cause the injustice (Who makes decisions and who get left out)* How does scripture call us to act on this issue* How does the Catechism of the Catholic Church call us to act on this issue ACTION* What non-government organization should St. David partner with and why (explain how the organization programs/services follow CST’s/Church teaching)* How could St. David school work in partnership with the non-government organization? Develop an action plan for student engagement* How would student involvement help students develop 2 Beatitude behaviors
