  1. The visual summary of the article, “Brain Eating Amoeba: Should you worry?” CLOSE-UP: BRAIN EATING AMOEBA!!

  2. What’s the problem? Scientists have discovered there’s a dangerous amoeba floating around in warm lakes.

  3. What’s the issue? The dangerous amoeba that is floating in the lake is actually a BRAIN EATING amoeba! The amoeba is dangerous because it climbs into your brain and starts eating it in order to survive. Once this happens, there is little to no chance of surviving!

  4. Who this affects? The brain eating amoeba mostly affects males. Scientist claim that the way boys play in the water makes it easier for the brain eating amoeba to enter the brain through the boys’ noses.

  5. Who this affects? Cont’d. The brain eating amoeba has also killed a few girls as well but not nearly as many as boys. It is possible that fewer girls have the brain eating amoeba because they tend to play less aggressively in the water. Without access to your nose, the brain eating amoeba can’t kill you.

  6. Should you worry? Scientists say that because the brain eating amoeba kills so few people, in the end it doesn’t make sense to close off all lakes to check for the amoeba. Just be aware that if you are swimming in a warm lake, you need to try to avoid getting any water up your nose. When you think about it, that’s what you do when you are swimming anyway. Why scare people when you don’t have to? Just know it’s out there.
