  3. 5.1 SG Academy The European Serious Game Academy (SGA) See http://www.GALANoE.eu/SocialNet is developing itself in terms of registration, organization and activities. The SGA presents itself as the Academy of GALA and the Serious Game Society (SGS). SGA has now around 200 members through the website, with new member registrations almost every day. In year two, the website has been improved into a social networking site. Furthermore, the SG academy is actively involved in the SG Award program and SG Summer School. Features like the European SG Map on the SGA website have great potentially to give a visual representation of the state of SG in Europe. It among others set up a system of eeBee’s and has been active in organizing the Awards system. It has opened pages for the Exchange program. Year 3: Consolidation and providing services like Exchange, Summer PhD school, networking and sharing. European Commission Information Society and Media

  4. 5.2 Alignment School The 2nd Alignment School in Lisbon was held as scheduled from 24-29 June 2012 in Lisbon with around 60 participants. The program can be found at: http://gaips.inesc-id.pt/as2012/. An impression of the content of the 2nd AS is included in D5.2. Both AS can be considered a success in terms of: 1. Good registration from Gala partners; 2. Very active interaction, discussion; 3. Partner input and reflection on GALA tasks, esp. the Master’s program during the 2nd AS. 4: social and network contacts; 5. breeding place of new ideas for research, visits and co-operation. Task completed. Will be taken over by Summer School, PhD school, Thematic events European Commission Information Society and Media

  5. 5.3 Books The strategy for the books is to gradually start up the book publication process, to build up experience and give enough time for GALA TCs and SIGs to come up with good quality research output. One book with the title Psychology, Pedagogy and Assessment in Serious Games with contributions from a great many authors and GALA partners, is now being edited and will appear around summer. Another monograph ‘A short methodology for serious games research’ is ‘under construction’. A third book ‘Discourse on Serious Games: Tales from the Trenches’ is getting started. Ideas and proposals, e.g. design of SG Recently, the GALA EMB has started up a discussion about turning one or several books into MOOCS, especially those titles that have significant didactic use on topics that have not yet been well developed. A combination of books and MOOCS seems a good idea. The writing and publishing of the books / MOOCS will have high priority in year 3. European Commission Information Society and Media

  6. 5.4 Msc Detailed answer to questions e-mailed. Before, during and after the 2nd AS considerable effort was put into the preparation and development of a structure for a M.Sc. on Serious Games. The potential demand for a M.Sc. on SG was estimated (as described in the revised D5.1.). A framework for development of the M.Sc. courses was defined (loosely based upon the IGDA model). During the 2nd AS all participants worked substantially in groups to flesh out the objectives and content of the potential courses for an M.Sc. on SG. This rough structure was subsequently put upon the GALA Wiki for comment and revisions. Finalizing the M.Sc. program structure, dissemination and publication is a priority for year 3 and 4. 7. 5.5/5.6 Schools The Summer / PhD schools are foreseen for Mo 2-Fri 6 September 2013 and plans have been made by partners TUT and Unigraz. Call and flyers for the Summer School were send out. An easy chair account and call for lecture and workshop proposal has been set up. UNIGRAZ has offered to organise rooms in which the Summer School can take place at the University of Graz and is getting some additional funding for the Summer School 2013. Regarding the PhD school the idea is to establish a graduate school. This will be priority for year 3 and 4. European Commission Information Society and Media

  8. 5.8 Awards The work plan for the European SG awards has been developed and the 1st call for submissions was put on the website of GALA and the Academy. http://www.GALAnoe.eu/index.php/breaking-news/call-for-papers/317-introducing-the-european-serious-games-awards. The submission rate was good for the first year. The first European SG Awards were handed out in October, 2012 at the VS-Games conference in Genoa: http://www.vs-games2012.org. In year 3-4, there will be another round of the European SG Award as part of GALA, after which the Serious Game Society should take over. European Commission Information Society and Media
