  1. Lesson 2: Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of 10 Unit 3: From Powers to Circles

  2. Lesson 2: Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of 10 Quiz: Place Value and Representing Numbers Activity: Finding a Pattern – Multiplying and Dividing Using Powers of 10 Lesson Notes Practice

  3. Quiz To test your knowledge (and to find out if you did your practice or not) complete the questions on the quiz provided You have 10 minutes to complete the quiz

  4. Finding a Pattern – Multiplying and Dividing Using Powers of 10 Activity: Complete "Finding a Pattern – Multiplying and Dividing Using Powers of 10"

  5. Finding a Pattern – Multiplying and Dividing Using Powers of 10 larger 3 places Part B Look for patterns: 1. When multiplying by powers of 10, the number gets ___________________. If a number is multiplied by 103, the decimal shifts _________________ (number of places) to the _______________of its original position. If a number is divided by 102, the decimal shifts ________________ (number of places) to the ____________of its original position. right 2 places left

  6. Summary When multiplying by powers of 10 the number gets larger, so shift the decimal to the right the same number of places as the exponent in the power of 10. Fill in any blanks in front of the decimal with zeros.

  7. Summary When dividing by powers of 10, the number gets smaller, so shift the decimal to the left the same number of places as the exponent in the power of 10. Fill in the blank places behind the decimal with zeros and add a zero to the left of the decimal if there is no other digit to the left of the decimal.

  8. Practice Complete the following questions in your notebook: Textbook pg. 229 #6-10, 15-16, 22 Make sure you have these notes written in your notebook before completing the practice you will complete a quiz before moving on to the next lesson
