  3. Mrs. McDermott and Mrs. Schmidt • Two teachers, one classroom • Business Items: • ANTS! • Water bottles *Backpacks/Jackets • Daily Class Schedules • Class donation • PTA: sign ups at the back!

  4. A.I.R.(School-wide behavior plan) • K-6 • AIR Cards • No Tardy awards! • Parents can show A.I.R. in the parking lot! 

  5. Standards • We follow the content standards set forth by the State of California. See the IUSD website and 2nd grade website.

  6. LANGUAGE ARTS • Houghton Mifflin • R.T.I. - one hour of direct instruction at their level. • Writing • Spelling – (test on Friday)

  7. MATH • Math series- Houghton Mifflin • Manipulatives--(hands on learning) • Problem Solving/Explaining their thinking! • Can not say “I don’t get it”

  8. Math Goals • Fact Fluency • Counting fast is not fluent! • Next homework will have your goal. • Website • www.iusd.org/wp

  9. SOCIAL STUDIES • Citizenship: Developing respect for self, others, and the community. • Awareness of cultures of the world • Patriotism and Map Skills • Money, Jobs, and Trade • 2nd grade rotations- 2 xs a week!

  11. MUSIC / LIBRARY/P.E. • Music (every other week) • Library every Friday • P.E. Tuesdays and Thursdays *Make sure your child wears tennis shoes and comfortable clothing.

  12. TECHNOLOGY • 30 minutes every Friday. • Instructional Focus: Basic computer skills • Volunteers welcome

  13. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT • Classroom Cash (Business Day) • **Save those special “treasures” • Table Points • Marble Jar • Bonus Point Stickers (BPs) • Choices Board/letters – note home for strike 2

  14. Special Programs • Star of the Week- see dates in packet • Birthdays- no food • Big Buddies • Classroom Volunteers –Guidelines and registration form on Westpark website.

  15. HOMEWORK • Homework folders go home each Monday and are due Fridays. • *Math workbook- do assigned pages only! • Check your child’s work and sign the contract! • Parent Grades: O / S / N • Extra Learning Opportunities Menu/Spelling Activities sheet *Read every night.

  16. Conduits and Communication • Conduits go home every Thursday – Please sign and return every Friday • Information is important – go through carefully.
