1. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Important Science Jobs Hi boys and girls, When we see you at the Discovery Zone, you will need to know all the cool jobs you will do. 2. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Investigator • Ask HSE any questions your group has • KNOW the learning goals for the activity • Keep your group working on the goals of the activity. • DOES the experiment, or tells others to do parts of • the experiment. IVDZ “Every job has a purpose. Everybody has a job”

3. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Measurer/Data Collector • Understands and tells others WHAT needs to be measured • and when it needs to be measured to their group. • Measures whatever is needed (distance, time, weight, etc.) • and gives data to your group’s recorder. • No one other than the Data Collector handles • the measuring tools. 4. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Recorder • Receives and writes or records data from the measurer. • Don’t forget the units (inches, cm. grams, etc) • Makes sure that any data shown is neat and has units. • Makes graphs and tables when they are needed. • Checks that recorded data is correct with the rest of the group. 5. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Reporter – “The Explainer” • Explains with talking, writing, or drawing these things: • what procedures (steps) were followed • describe results and data collected • talk about findings to teacher/HSE and other students • say what your group had trouble with or thought was difficult • summarizes procedures and findings with other group • members to make sure everyone understands the learning • goal of the activity. 6. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Materials Manager set up/cleanup • picks up and returns measuring tools needed for activity • picks up and returns other materials needed for activity • helps investigator in doing the experiment • helps HSE’s with cleanup • makes sure that station is left the way it was found, before • leaving. 7. Imperial Valley Discovery Zone “Inquiry Learning in Science” Sometimes you will need to wear safety gear. It is easy to put on and wear. You will wear these to keep you safe when they are needed. IVDZ “Every job has a purpose. Everybody has a job”
