  1. September 14, 2011 Agenda: • Agenda/Warm-up • Introduction to Cells • Structure and Function Graphic Organizer and Discussion • Cell Structure and Function Activity • Ticket Out The Door Assessment • Clean-up Warm-up: • Write down what you already know about cells. • What is the Cell Theory? (pg. 84) • Define Cell. (pg. 81)

  2. California Standard 7.1 All living things are composed of cells, from just one to trillions, whose details are usually visible only through a microscope.

  3. Goal Objective • Students will begin to know the cell theory. • Students will know that all living things are made up of one to trillions of cells. • Students will know cells have different structures and functions.

  4. Language Objective • Students will be provided visuals of different types of cells, and will discuss and read about the “cell” and the “cell theory”. Students will be practicing structure and function of different varieties of cells using a manipulative.

  5. September 27, 2012 Agenda: • Agenda • Introduction to Cells • Go Over Cell Theory Four Boxes • Reflection • Clean-up

  6. California Standard • 7.1.a Students know cells function similarly in all living organisms.

  7. Goal Objective • Students will begin to know the cell theory. • Students know cells function similarly in all living organisms.

  8. Amoeba (Single Cell Organism) • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKNzzxuz6uk • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pR7TNzJ_pA

  9. Bacteria (Single Cell)

  10. Cheek Cells

  11. Human Egg Cell

  12. Muscle Cells

  13. Brain Cells (Neurons)

  14. Cells of the Eye

  15. Brain Cancer

  16. Main Idea • What can you conclude from all these pictures?

  17. Higher Order Thinking • So, if all living things are made up of cells, how can you explain this statement? • Cells are the basic units of structure and function of all living things?

  18. Structure vs. Function • From your knowledge explain what is structure? • What is function?

  19. Function Similarly • Now explain the concept “cells function similarly in all living organisms.”

  20. Cell Theory 4-Squares (Title, Name, Number and Date = 6 points)

  21. Reflection • List 3 things you learned today!!!

  22. Graphic Organizer (pg. 81) Complete the following Graphic Organizer: Definition of Cell: Explain Cell Structure Explain Cell Function What is the size of a cell and how can you see a cell?

  23. Lets Go Back and Review The Cell Theory • What three things is the cell theory composed of? • Go back to the Objectives and Goals.

  24. Checking for Understanding • Explain in a summary the importance of cells, and how they are involved in our everyday life. • (Why is it so important for us to learn about cells.)

  25. Let’s Practice • You will need the following: - Poster with Body Outline - 11 envelopes - 3 students in a group (assigned by seating chart)

  26. Directions • You will have 10 envelopes with pieces in them. • Put the pieces together • Place that structure in the correct spot on the body • After all ten structures are assembled and placed on correct spot, then take out function strips from the 11th envelope. • Place the function next to the correct structure.

  27. Discussion • What do the pieces represent? • How does this activity relate to our Learning Goals for the day?

  28. Questions Out The Door • Use the responders as a final assessment for the day.

  29. Clean-up • Bookkeepers, Trash Collectors, and Absent Wall students do your job. • Have a great day!!!
