Viticulture history • Bulgaria is one of the oldest wine producing countries: 6000-3000 years before JC - Vineyards were cultivated thousand years before the Romans - Dyonisos cult, Zagreus • First wine institute founded in 1880 • During Communism(’45-89): 5th world wine producing country and 2 nd world largest exporter. • ’89- 2013: Wine industry revival, Land privatizations, Foreign and local investments.
