  1. Gas Turbine Engine ProjectMaterials Joint Test Protocol Document Principally Prepared By Jerry Schell GE Aircraft Engines Additional Input From GTE OEMs and DoD Repair Depots

  2. Component Alloys Seven alloys selected for technical evaluation IN718, INC901, AM355, A286, 17-4PH, 4340, 9310

  3. Coating Compositions to beInvestigated in Project HVOF ProcessAir Plasma Spray Process WC/17Co WC/17Co Cr3C2/(20)NiCr Co/28Mo/8Cr/2Si* Co/28Mo/8Cr/2Si* Co/28Mo/17Cr/3Si** * Tribaloy 400 ** Tribaloy 800

  4. Materials JTP Structure FIVE MAJOR TASKS: 1. Spray process optimizations 2. Fatigue 3. Wear and friction Fretting tests, carbon seal tests 4. Corrosion tests 5. Producibility tests - Stripability - Grindability - Assembly/Disassembly (This item could potentially be removed from JTP

  5. Current Status of Materials JTP • Jerry Schell completed coatings optimization work on HVOF Tribaloy 400 and Tribaloy 800 at Hitemco in October 2001 • Hitemco has initiated deposition of T400, T800 and WC/Co (optimized in landing gear project) onto 350 fatigue coupons • Southwest United Industries to initiate deposition of hard chrome onto 162 fatigue coupons in early March • Remaining fatigue coupons have been fabricated; deposition awaiting optimization studies

  6. Issues • Navy provided additional comments to MJTP in August 2001 • Jerry Schell assigned to special Navy project to implement PVD coatings onto turbine blades in T64 engine in November; expected to run through March 2002 Current Actions • Discussion held with Jerry Schell to address issues raised by Navy; another draft of MJTP to be prepared by late February • Meeting to resolve all outstanding issues and finalize MJTP was held on 19 February before HCAT Meeting • No-cost extension to contract with GEAE issued by Geo-Centers Should have extensive materials test results by time of August/September HCAT meeting
